In Honour of George Harvey

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

In White Rock, the 2009 Honouree is George Harvey. “The Alzheimer Society helped our family understand this terrible disease and guided us through decisions about Dad’s care. 2009 White Rock Honouree:
George Harvey

Born in Winnipeg in 1934, George Harvey was the youngest of five children. His quest to find out “how things worked” opened many doors from blacksmithing to drafting.

After studying electronics, George became a pioneer in the cable industry and brought signals to many communities for the first time. George then started a family cable distribution company, where all his children worked over the years.

George valued family time and got involved in his children’s chosen sport of football. He brought sound and lights to the football field and was one of the forefathers who created the constitution of the North Delta Football Association.

“The Alzheimer Society helped our family understand this terrible disease and guided us through decisions about Dad’s care. Through the Society we are able to share our experience with other families facing the same challenges; it is a great source of comfort,” said George’s daughter Heather.

Let’s get walking White Rock—for George and the 64,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
