This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to very special members of our community, all caregivers.

The Victoria walk is being held this year to honor the often-overlooked caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.

We tend to forget that this is a long, demanding and emotional journey for these caregivers as well as for the person with dementia. Regardless of whether caregivers are family members, friends or paid professionals - their compassion, patience and dedication ensure a better quality of life for those who live with this disease.

What does it mean to care for someone with dementia? Thank you to the following family members who’ve chosen to share their stories:

  • Arlene Rees, whose mother has Alzhemer’s disease, took her role as caregiver to new heights - the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Read more...
  • Geri Hinton has turned to the Alzheimer Society for support along a 10-year journey caring for a spouse with Alzheimer’s disease. Read more...
  • Lori Smith is a professional caregiver who sees her role in the dementia journey as a priviledge. Read more...

These caregivers are truly un-sung heroes and it is our privilege to pay tribute to their strength, commitment and devotion. Your participation and fundraising for the Investors Group Walk for Memories will ensure that we can continue to provide support to those with dementia and their caregivers.
