2009 Vernon Honouree:
George Kuhn

Born in 1927, George Kuhn married his wife June in 1951 and had four children Bob, Doug, Janet and Leanne.

George worked in sawmills, orchards, and finally as custodian at Coldstream Elementary and Vernon Senior Secondary. He enjoyed curling, cross-country skiing and writing poetry. After retiring he spent time with his 11 grandchildren, travelled and made home-cooked dinners for June each night.

A respected member of his community and always willing to help, George was a volunteer fireman and board member in his church.

In 2002 George began experiencing symptoms of Lewy Body Dementia. June cared for George at home until 2005 when he moved to Polson Extended Care.

“I went to the Alzheimer Society’s Caregiver Series, and learned important information about the disease,” said June. “The Walk is a chance for people to get educated about dementia, and to find out that the Society has services and support to help.”

Let’s get walking Vernon—for George and June and the 64,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia
