This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to a special member of our community, Roy Saunders.

Born in Alberta in 1927, Roy Saunders was one of eight children in a tight-knit Scottish clan. At the age of 21, he moved to BC and met his wife Lorna Jeanne Shields, with whom he had three children: Judy, Kenneth and Glen.

Roy SaundersWith Lorna at his side, Roy built a successful logging business. When Lorna became terminally ill, Roy retired early to take care of her. It was at this time, around 1981, that his children noticed him becoming forgetful. This was the beginning of the slow progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Roy has lived a rich life, and has been active in his community. A dedicated Rotarian for more than 40 years, he has made several generous donations such as the 1986 Light Up of the Nanaimo Court House. This gift to the city was also a tribute to the love of his life Lorna before she passed away. Roy lives in Dover House care facility in Nanaimo where he continues to live a vibrant life, enjoying weekly meals with his children.
