Walk for Memories    Eugene Wilkinson

In Honour of Eugene Wilkinson

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

In Vernon, the 2009 Honouree is George Kuhn. “The Walk is a chance for people to get educated about dementia, and to find out that the Society has services and support to help.” said George’s wife June. Read more …

In Dawson Creek, the 2009 Honouree is Eugene Wilkinson. “The Alzheimer Society was there with support for me when I needed it. 2009 Dawson Creek Honouree:
Eugene Wilkinson

Born in England in 1917, Eugene (Gene) Wilkinson had two daughters with his wife Tina. A real gentleman who always lived with a positive attitude, Gene had a passion for music and dance; he was a disc jockey, square dance caller and dance instructor. After Tina passed away, he and his second wife Madeline taught dance until Gene was 88.

Gene gave his all to his community—he volunteered at care homes, for Meals on Wheels, won a citizen of the year award, and was the secretary of his vintage car club.

In 2005 Madeline and Gene turned to the Alzheimer Society as Gene’s vascular dementia became severely advanced. Gene passed away in May 2008.

“The Alzheimer Society was there with support for me when I needed it,” said Madeline. “The dementia education and assistance with planning that I received from Muriel at the office in Dawson Creek was invaluable.”

Let’s get walking Dawson Creek—for Gene and the 64,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
