This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to a special member of our community, Joyce Brown.

Joyce BrownRaised in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Joyce Brown pursued her post-secondary education in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When Joyce graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1954, she was presented with the Canadian Nurses Award.

After just one year of a much-loved nursing career, Joyce met the man that she would marry; Alan, a military pilot who swept her away overseas. Through 51 years of marriage that carried them through three different countries before they settled in Comox, Alan and Joyce raised two children and built a lifetime of memories with family and dearly loved friends.

Joyce’s love, generosity and kindness never went unnoticed; the lonely, the needy and the sick all shared a piece of her heart. Until she was no longer able, endless time was dedicated to volunteer work. Joyce’s final award was for 15 years of service with the Cancer Society in Comox.

Joyce first showed signs of memory loss in 1993, but was undiagnosed for years; Alan supported and cared for her at home through the many struggles and years of Alzheimer’s. Her incredible inner strength, love of friends, family and life carried her through the challenges of Alzheimer’s until she passed away in December 2006.
