research in B.C.

A portion of every donation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. goes towards research through a national peer evaluated competition for research grants and training awards.

There is no known cause or cure for Alzheimer's disease or dementia. However, each dollar contributed towards research brings us one step closer to a world without dementia.

For 2006, doctoral grants in B.C. were designated to the following students:

Jennifer Barker at the University of British Columbia for her project, The effects of estrogens on adult hippocampal neurogenesis and memory.

Vinay Bharadia at the University of Victoria for his project, Biomarkers of Mild Cognitive Impairment: Early detection of Alzheimer's Disease? Click here for more details about Vinay’s research.

Braydon Burgess at the University of British Columbia for his research focused on ABCG1 and Alzheimer’s disease.

Lesley Ritchie at the University of Victoria for her project, Development of a clinical decision tree for diagnosing cognitive impairment in older adults: Comparison with existing criteria for mild cognitive impairment.

Lauren Scott at the University of British Columbia for her project, Glycosylated Pyridinone Pro-drugs - a Proposed Treatment for Alzheimer Disease. Click here for more details about Lauren’s research.
