MIND: HELP IN SETTING YOUR GOALS
Get inspired!
- Monet didn’t paint his famous water lily panels till he was 76.
- Cezanne kept refining and improving his style all his life, and his most valuable paintings are those painted in the last year of his life.
- Will Durant won the Pulitzer Prize for History at 83.
- Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Guggenheim Museum at 90.
- Dr Michael DeBakey took out a patent for a surgical innovation at age 90 and continued to consult for NASA till he was 91.
- Nirad C. Chaudhuri wrote his autobiography at the age of 54; he wrote a sequel to it at the age of 90; and he finished his next and final work at the age of 100!
Bronze Level
- Watch less television. Instead, read a book or play a social game (cards, Scrabble, etc.).
- Make an effort to remember people’s names.
- Try to remember at least a few of the telephone numbers you call most regularly (take them off speed dial).
- Do something new and different: take a different route to work, expose yourself to new ideas or different cultures.
Silver Level (In addition to doing tasks at the Bronze level)
- Do mental arithmetic every day: make calculations at work, or mentally total your grocery bill as you go around the supermarket and see how close you get to the actual total.
- Play word games.
- Craft an original, polished, and professionally written document (i.e. not using a template, email or jargon).
- Play a musical instrument.
- Pursue art or craft work, especially something that involves counting or following a pattern (i.e. such as knitting, or woodworking).
Gold Level (In addition to doing tasks at the Bronze and Silver levels)
- Play a logic game, like Sudoku, or a numbers game.
- Play word games, like crosswords, Scrabble, word find, or poetry.
- Work to improve memory consistently: aim to remember more from each newspaper article you read, or from conversations.
- Memorize a poem, a recipe, or the roster of your favorite sports team. Learn a language or take an educational course.
