Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
The 2011 Powell River Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Philip Knight.
Born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba in 1924, Philip Knight went on to serve our country proudly in WWII. After returning home, Philip moved to Powell River in 1952 and worked in the local mill for 35 years until he retired. In 1992 he had a second chance at love when he met and married Antoinette, after they had both been widowed. Antoinette turned to the Alzheimer Society for information and support after Phillip’s diagnosis in 2008. "The Dementia Education Series sessions were very enlightening with lots of useful information" says Antoinette, adding "the education helped her to understand the disease and what to expect."
Philip is known for his generosity in time and spirit as an active community member for the Knights of Columbus and the local Catholic Church.
