Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to Martin Cox.

Armed with compassion, a helping personality and teacher training, Martin Cox came to Canada from the U.K. Adding both Canadian and U.S. master’s degrees, he spent his career with children with multiple disabilities, and became principal of a group of schools for students at risk, or with special needs.

After relocating with his wife Maggie from Montreal to Victoria, Martin was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.  However, he and Maggie are still helping.  They’re keenly involved in Alzheimer Society activities, contribute suggestions for programs, forge friendships with other couples in similar circumstances, and work toward reducing the isolation felt by so many people who have dementia.

Martin and Maggie said, ”We are amongst the thousands of individuals and families in this province who are affected by these mind-destroying diseases; we all have a very difficult road ahead and need help in finding the right direction. At the Alzheimer Society we found that help, but we also found caring people, personal support and companionship along the way.”

Let’s get walking Victoria—with Martin and the 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
