This summer, use these helpful travelling tips for caregivers. 

 

As summer approaches, many people experience the excitement and anticipation of an upcoming vacation. However, as a caregiver of someone with dementia, you may be concerned about what challenges will arise during your holiday. Although people with dementia generally do best in familiar settings, travelling can be successful and enjoyable given the right conditions and some careful planning.

Local woman raises $10,000 for Alzheimer Society of B.C.

Kerri Sutherland, a 61-year-old woman from North Vancouver, is about to take on the biggest athletic challenge of her life.

Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge raises $26,568!

The results are in and thanks to the generous support of our runners, walkers and other donors, we have surpassed our goals for the 2011 Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K!
  • We registered 76 participants – 26 more than our goal of 50
  • We have raised $26,568 so far (final number to come after Jul. 10) – more than $1,000 above our goal of $25,000

It was a fantastic morning – the weather was beautiful, everyone was happy and excited and we want to say a big thanks to all the participants and volunteers who provided information and answered questions about the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

“Families First” includes seniors

Within one generation baby boomers will almost double the population of seniors in British Columbia. MLA Dr. Margaret MacDiarmid, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors to the Minister of Health, was recently in the community spreading the message that Premier Christy Clark’s families first agenda includes seniors who are grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles in B.C. families.

Local MLA meets with dementia advocates

MLA Mike Farnworth of the Port Coquitlam riding, who also serves as the Opposition Critic for Health, recently visited the offices of the Alzheimer Society of B.C. to meet with local dementia advocates to discuss current health issues such as British Columbian families living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Protect the “brains” of your business…..your employees

Every year, 15,000 people in British Columbia develop symptoms of early onset Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, in addition to over 70,000 already affected. People can start developing symptoms as early as their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.
