Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.
This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to Betty Howell.
A wife, loving mother of two and grandmother of five, Betty loved all people.
Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England on Sept. 18, 1926, she immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her husband Sid, son Peter and daughter Janet. She was a very hard worker and worked in retail, private catering, and as a nanny.
A strong Christian, in her eyes God created everyone equally. She gave generously to her church, local food bank, or to any person that required assistance. She volunteered many hours at St. Mark’s Anglican Church and her strong leadership skills saw many church projects from start to finish.
She encouraged her grandchildren and their friends to visit her whenever they wished. They shared problems or good news and she listened with interest. All children left with treats, a hug and a kiss goodbye.
The family received advice, comfort, literature and support from the Alzheimer Society of B.C. This helped lighten the load that the family carried.
Let’s get walking Dawson Creek - for Betty
Howell and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia
