Al Coppin (far right) and family
This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to Al Coppin.
Al Coppin grew up in Fort William, Ont. and met his wife, Sharon, in Victoria on a blind date – the only one on which she ever went. They have three children; Steve, Laurie and Shannon and two grandchildren. After military school, where Al completed the Officer Cadet program at Royal Roads in Victoria, B.C., Al obtained a BSc and MBA and worked as a manager for MicroTel Pacific Research until his retirement at 56. He taught computers at the Seniors Centre, enjoyed playing golf, squash and basketball and coached his children’s sports teams.
Al and Sharon have participated in many education workshops and support groups through the Alzheimer Society of B.C., furthering their understanding of the disease and enabling them to better cope with the changes and challenges on the dementia journey. They have also established friendships with others in similar situations through these programs.
Al is extremely grateful to his family for their support and constantly looks for ways to support them as well, as he recognizes how difficult the journey is for everyone.
Let’s get walking Tri-Cities, Burnaby, New West & Ridge Meadows - for Al Coppin and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
