In light of a CBC News investigation feature that aired on Monday, September 20 about third party companies being hired to raise funds for charities, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. wants to reassure our donors and supporters about the accountability of our fundraising activities.

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. does not, and has not in the past, retained the services of third party fundraising companies.

“The Alzheimer Society of B.C. primarily raises funds through our four signature events, as well as gifts from individuals, corporations and charitable foundations,” explained Jean Blake, CEO, Alzheimer Society of B.C. “Currently, for every dollar donated, 85 cents goes directly to programs and research and we want to make sure there is no confusion for our supporters about how their donations are spent.”

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides the only province-wide network of support, education, and information about dementia, allocates donations to fund research for a cure and also leads advocacy efforts to transform dementia care. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is part of a national federation of Alzheimer societies and a leading health authority on the disease.
