2011 Kelowna Walk
Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
The 2011 Kelowna Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Yolan Lyon (Czerman).
Yolan, known affectionately as Min, a nickname given by her mother, came to Canada with her family on a cattle boat in 1927.
Min was a stay at home mom and there was always wonderful smells of Hungarian food emerging from her kitchen. She raised three children mostly on her own as Art, her husband, was a trucker and often on the road. Min never lost her temper or raised her voice, worked through every situation or hardship with compassion, love and understanding, and put everyone else’s needs before her own. She had a wonderful sense of humour even after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Min continued to enjoy laughing and having fun with her family and friends.
Min peacefully passed away on May 14, 2005. She and Art had been married for 58 years.
"We miss the smiles, hugs and unconditional love that this wonderful woman, mother and friend has given so freely to all of us," says her daughter Wendy Lee.
