Vancouver, B.C. – It appears the public has heard the recent call to action by the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Record numbers came out for The Investors Group Walk for Memories events in 19 communities across the province and have, for the first time in the history of the event, exceeded the half million dollar mark with donations still coming in.

Held to honour and support the more than 70,000 British Columbians who are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, the events took place on the last Sunday of January, Alzheimer Awareness Month. The events follow the release of startling new data that indicates if nothing changes, the prevalence of dementia in B.C. could more than double in the next 30 years. According to the national study Rising Tide: The impact of dementia on Canadian Society, the social and economic impact of this rising tide will be felt by everyone.

Funds raised at each of the 19 Walks around B.C. ensure that individuals and families impacted by the disease have access to support, and also goes to vital research to find the causes and cure for the disease.

Support is still needed to help turn the rising tide. Make an online donation at www.walkformemories.com.
