Free public screenings of documentary film about family’s dementia journey

Winner of the Best International Film award at the Indie Spirit Film Festival, Forgetful Not Forgotten is an intimate portrait of a family coming to grips with the realities of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Audiences in five B.C. communities will have the opportunity to see free public screenings of the film next month.

“At the young age of 57, my father John was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease,” said filmmaker Chris Wynn. “Forgetful Not Forgotten is the story of my family’s journey to Dad’s final days.”

As much as this is a film about the changes Alzheimer’s brings to an individual’s life, it is even more about how the disease impacts the lives of families and friends. Forgetful Not Forgotten chronicles the experiences of Chris and his family as they are forced to recreate themselves from a wife and children to increasingly challenged caregivers.

Wynn also takes us inside the medical world of Alzheimer’s diagnostics and prevention as he looks at concerns about his potential risks of developing the disease, and the ramifications for his own future.

This is a tribute, a personal journey, and a documentary about the widespread effects of an increasingly common disease. Forgetful Not Forgotten delivers a message of heartbreak and hope to the growing numbers of people who are living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Wynn will be making appearances to speak with audiences at free public screenings of the film around B.C. during March 2010:
