Each of the Walks
was dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.
This Investors Group Walk for Memories
was dedicated to James “Keith” Vancoughnett
James “Keith” Vancoughnett is happy to share his journey of living with Alzheimer’s disease. For those with the disease, he hopes they will take it each day as it comes and see that there is still laughter, loving, sharing and caring along the journey.
Keith was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba as the second eldest of eight children. A Canadian chartered accountant, Keith enjoyed his career as a senior financial officer and corporate board member for major corporations in Canada and the United States. Keith is also proud to have been a past Mensa Member. Upon retiring in 2004 as a Vice President with Ron Stern Partners Inc. he and his wife Marlene moved to Lake Chapala, Mexico.
Over the years he spent many leisure hours in his workshop creating wood and soapstone carvings, which he often donated to local charities. While living in Mexico he was a member of the Masons and Shriners and a volunteer advocate and
fundraiser for a Mexican Seniors Care Residence.
Upon returning to Canada, he joined the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and both he and Marlene attend the Caregiver and Dementia Early Stage support groups. With the information, support and counseling available from the Society, Marlene has been able to take an active role in the continuing support and care of her husband.
Thanks for Walking
Nanaimo - for James “Keith” Vancoughnett and the more than 70,000
individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
