The 2011 Barriere Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to John Paula and wife Pat, along with daughters Cheryl and Christie.
John had charisma and was a hard worker who would often stop whatever he was doing to help others. This extended to being involved with, and sometimes leading, community organizations such as 4-H, Future Farmers of America, B.C. Cattleman’s Association, Mt.Olie Lion’s Club, Little Fort Recreation Society and the Petaluma Riding and Driving Club. Involvement with the riding and driving community led to one of the most fondly remembered adventures for the Paula family; when they traveled across the U.S. in a covered wagon for the Bicentennial Wagon Train Pilgrimage in 1976.
After John’s diagnosis, Pat looked to the Alzheimer Society for help accessing "information, insight, and emotional support, which I received compassionately and quickly," she said. This service helped Pat provide care to John at home and was a great resource throughout the 10 years of their lives after the onset of Alzheimer’s.
