The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is pleased to present this year’s recipients of volunteer awards recognizing community leadership and involvement to advance the cause and help turn the rising tide of dementia. The awards were presented at the Society’s annual general meeting.
This year’s recipients are:
- Jim Mann received the Clyde and Lanny Slade Leadership Award, which recognizes strong leadership qualities and outstanding contribution to the Society’s mission. Jim is an active Alzheimer Advocate, media spokesperson, and Board member for both the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and Alzheimer Society of Canada.
- Mario Gregorio received the Mike Crowe Award of Hope, which is awarded to an individual living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and is demonstrating courage and leadership. Mario has agreed to be interviewed by the media numerous times, allowing a number of reporters, camera-people, photographers and Society staff into his home with a smile on his face and a willingness to share his story with the world. Mario’s commitment to sharing his life in the public eye gives people hope that they can continue with parts of their lives throughout their own dementia journey.
- Cal and Loree Renwick have been leading the Nelson Investors Group Walk for Memories for the past 6 years. They are the recipients for the Lola Turik Community Service Award for demonstrating community leadership as volunteer chairs for the Nelson Walk.
- Global TV, Mark Madryga and Steve Darling are the recipients of the Media Award of Recognition. Both Mark and Steve lend their time and community profile to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In particular, both have been involved with Society events, the Investors Group Walk for Memories and the Forget Me Not Golf Tournament.
