Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to Werner Henseleit.
Born in Germany during World War II, Werner Henseleit emigrated to Canada as a teenager and studied to become a pastor. He cared for the bereaved by establishing funeral homes in the B.C. Interior and Okanagan. After moving his family to Kelowna in 1985, he and his wife Gretel adopted a Russian orphan and led mission outreaches to churches, orphanages and prisons in Cuba and Russia.
In 1999, Werner suffered the first of a series of strokes that eventually led to severe vascular dementia.
This is your opportunity to show Werner you care.
“My dad was always both community and globally-minded, often saying the world was bigger than us,” said Werner’s son Richard. “Being an honouree for this year’s Walk is a perfect tribute to dad’s legacy of compassion.”
Werner participated in last year’s Walk and had a very good day, and is honoured – once again – to be part of something that’s “bigger than himself.”
Let’s get walking Kelowna—for Werner and the 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
