Congrats to local author and Society supporter Sarah Leavitt! Tangles: A Story about Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me, is on the BC Book Prizes shortlist for the Hubert Evan Non-Fiction Prize.

The book depicts her family’s experience on the dementia journey as Midge, an outspoken, passionate, and quick-witted mother starts fading into a forgetful, fearful woman and transforms her family forever. Sarah launched her illustrated memoir on World Alzheimer’s Day on Sept. 21, 2010 and fundraised for the Society at that launch.

“We applaud Sarah’s contribution to the promotion of Alzheimer’s disease awareness through the arts. We are encouraged that her family’s experience with the Alzheimer Society of Fredericton was so helpful in their dementia journey and we continue to strive as a national federation to provide that level of support for all of the Canadians across the country who use our services,” says Jean Blake, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
