Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.

This Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to George Grypma.

George Grypma was born in Holland on February 2, 1926. As a young man he served his country after WWII for 4 years in Indonesia.

On returning from Holland, George fell in love with Anna Groot, to whom he’s been married to for 56 years. Together they had two children before moving to Calgary to complete the family with four more.

With six children in tow, the family moved to Nelson, B.C. where George and Anna established a family business called Georama: a beautiful vision of the earth. After 20 successful years working as a family, he retired in 1990 and settled into a happy retirement of travelling with Anna.

George was active in his community and his generosity helped many people succeed. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate where he practiced his faith. Most of all, he always had the time to patiently watch over his family whenever they needed his guidance, his help and his
training. George had a calm, gentle nature, great wisdom and incredible devotion to his
family.

At the age of 76, George developed Alzheimer’s disease and through it he lived with grace, dignity and humour until his passing on Aug. 9, 2012.

Let’s get walking Nelson - for George Grypma and the more than 70,000 individuals and
families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
