2011 Salmon Arm Walk
The 2011 Salmon Arm Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Lloyd Askew.
Helping to build the family business from a young age, Lloyd Askew drove around the Salmon River valley in the late 1930s selling meat and produce. The eldest of eight children and gregarious in nature, he was quickly acquainted with everyone in the area and over the years, everyone came to know him as a business leader who valued community. Lloyd organized business owners in Salmon Arm to form BC’s first Business Improvement Area, was a life member of Rotary and was recognized with a special life time achievement award for community service by the Salmon Arm City Council.
Lloyd served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II and was proud of earning his wings to become a pilot officer. Shortly after returning home, he married Dorothy Brown RN and together they raised three children, David, Colleen and Karen.
After Lloyd was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, the family connected with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and received helpful information about the disease, its progression and service providers.
