Alzheimer Society of B.C. recognizes local community leaders

 

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is pleased to present this year’s recipients of volunteer awards recognizing community leadership and involvement to advance the cause and help turn the rising tide of dementia. The awards were presented at the Society’s annual general meeting.

Are you having difficulty talking about dementia with the children and teens in your family? Are you wondering how much you should say? This tele-workshop for family caregivers explains what children and teens need to know to better understand dementia and offers suggestions on how to help them interact with the person.

Family Caregiver Series being offered in Cantonese
 
The Society will begin offering the complete Family Caregiver Series education program to Cantonese-speaking families in Richmond.

Mt. Kilimanjaro – Grouse Grind for Alzheimer’s
 
Each year, a new team participates in the Ascent for Alzheimer’s fundraising event, a hike on Mt. Kilimanjaro that symbolically represents the mountainous struggle that people living with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers and family face every single day.

Members of tourism industry show support for Alzheimer’s cause
 
Showing their support for a longtime industry colleague, Rick Antonson of Tourism Vancouver, representing others in tourism who have worked with Jim Mann, made a $5,000 donation to the Society at the non-profit organization’s recent annual general meeting.

Alzheimer Society of B.C. Provincial Office hosts a 2011 Coffee Break® Bake Sale

On Friday, Sept. 16 the staff from the Provincial Office and the Vancouver Resource Centre held a bake sale in support of the 2011 Coffee Break®. An assortment of delicious goodies were baked by Society staff, sold, and enjoyed by all! Together $172 was raised for the national annual fundraiser.
