Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Salmon Arm, the 2009 Walk was dedicated to all caregivers in Armstrong, Enderby, Salmon Arm and surrounding areas.
Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is a demanding and sometimes difficult journey. As the disease progresses, caregiving can become a 24-hour a day job, requiring endless patience and love.
Caregivers may be spouses, children, family members, or paid professionals, but they are all unsung heroes, who persevere in the face of this disease.
“The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is a lifeline for caregivers. Their knowledge about the disease, support groups and one-on-one support mean that we’re not alone with this disease,” said Randie Dick, a caregiver. "I feel so comfortable knowing that when I need them, the Society is there for me."
