- More than 64,000 people in British Columbia are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia - a number that is projected to grow to 74,000 over the next five years.
- Approximately 14,000 British Columbians develop dementia each year. In Canada, it is projected to be 97,000.

- An estimated 450,000 Canadians over age 65 have Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
- Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, accounts for approximately 64 per cent of all dementias in Canada.
- Alzheimer's disease is the second most feared disease for Canadians as they age.
- Nearly one in four Canadians (36 per cent) know someone with Alzheimer's disease.
- Seventeen per cent of Canadians have someone with Alzheimers disease in their family.
- More women are affected by the disease than men: Women account for more than two-thirds of all those over 65 with the disease. A majority of caregivers are also women.
