What is Coffee Break?
Coffee Break is an event where friends, co-workers and customers can gather to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Guests invited to the event make a donation for every cup of coffee poured, and the money raised stays in the community to help support local programs and services. It is usually held to coincide with World Alzheimer's Day, although many organizations and individuals participate throughout September.

If I host an event, what do I need to do?
Hosting a Coffee Break is easy: gather your friends or co-workers over a cup of coffee at home or at your workplace, and ask them to make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. We provide all the materials you need. Once you've signed up as a host, you will be mailed a Coffee Break Host Kit; just promote your event in advance, and on event day put on the coffee!

In recent years, retail organizations have also come on board selling our Coffee Cup Cutouts, writing the donor's name on it, and posting it on the wall to show their support.

Where does the money go?
Donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. ensure that people whose lives have been impacted by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia can connect to a community of information, services and support. Funds raised also go towards research to search for the causes and the cure. Click here for more information.

To make a donation online towards Coffee Break, click here. Using the "Fund" menu, please designate your donation for Coffee Break.

Who gets a tax receipt?
Donations of $15 or more will automatically receive an official tax receipt; donations under $15 will be receipted by request only.

If you made a donation at a hosted event, and you noted the required information on the Tax Receipt Form, you will receive an official tax receipt. If you have questions about your tax receipt, please call the Alzheimer Society of B.C. at 604-681-6530 or 1-800-667-3742.

If you make a donation online, you will receive an official receipt via e-mail from CanadaHelps.org to the e-mail address you provided.

I run a restaurant. What can I do?

  1. Sell our Coffee Cup Cutouts that customers can purchase for $1 or $2, fill in their names and post around the restaurant for a visual display of support.
  2. Designate coffee sales (or a percentage of) for a set period to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
  3. Be flexible! You can host a Coffee Break on whichever day works best for you.
  4. Suggest to customers the opportunity to 'round-up' the bill. The difference would be given to Coffee Break.
  5. Hold a special dinner and donate the proceeds.
  6. Give a corporate donation, followed by a challenge to your staff or your customers to meet or beat that donation! (Companies that contribute a matching donation will receive a certificate of recognition acknowledging their support of the Alzheimer Society of B.C. as well as a receipt for the donation.)
