Are there any workshops about Alzheimer’s disease that I can take from home?
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is offering free telephone workshops through a service called the Care-Ring Voice Network. The workshops are offered as telephone conference calls, and as an added feature, the workshops use online materials that make it easy for you to read along while you are on the phone.

How can family caregivers benefit from tele-workshops?
Caring for caregivers is vital to the health of families. The workshops cover topics directly related to caring for others with dementia, and give family caregivers the information and support to do this.

What do I need to participate?
To participate in a tele-workshop, you must have telephone access. Access to the Internet is also helpful; Internet access will allow you to read along with online materials while you participate in the workshop.

What if I don’t have Internet access?
If you do not have access to the Internet, special arrangements can be made to have workshop materials mailed to you.

What is the Care-Ring Voice Network?
The tele-workshops are offered through Care-Ring Voice Network, an organization providing telephone access to educational workshops for caregivers.

How can I register for the telephone workshops?
You can register for any of these tele-workshops online or by phone.
To register online, go to www.careringvoice.com. Click on 'Caring for Caregivers', then click on 'Current Teleworkshops', choose one of the workshops, and finally click on 'Register Online'. (Click here for a direct link.)
To register by phone, call 1-866-396-2433, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Once you have registered, a representative will contact you before the workshop to give you further details about participating. The day of the workshop, simply log on to the website, call the phone number and enter your access code. You are ready to participate!

What is it like to participate in a telephone workshop?
The conference call allows you to listen to the workshop presenter and at the same time read the online handouts. You can also ask questions or make comments and hear from other family caregiver participants.
