The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is the only province-wide non-profit organization dedicated to helping anyone concerned with or facing dementia have the confidence and skills to maintain quality of life.
Services include early stage and caregiver support groups, dementia education programs, teleworkshops, lending libraries and newsletters, and the toll-free Dementia Helpline.
Donations support four key areas:
- Support and information resources
- Programs and services
- Research
- Advocacy and public policy
These areas are highlighted below, but we encourage you to browse our website to learn more about dementia and the services we offer. For a more detailed break-down of how we spend the money we raise, please see our

Programs and Services
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides education for people with dementia, for families, and for professional caregivers.
These programs include:
The Dementia Education Series is a comprehensive and flexible series of workshops that covers the entire journey with dementia, from risk reduction, through life after diagnosis to end-of-life decisions. Some sessions are offered for people with dementia and their family members to learn together.
Shaping the Journey: Living with Dementia is a 6-part series of workshops for people with early symptoms of dementia and their care partners who want to explore and prepare for the journey ahead in a positive and supportive environment.
Teleworkshops are free, one-hour telephone workshops that allow any B.C. resident to learn from home about caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
Dementia Journey is a web-based dementia information and resources centre for people with dementia, caregivers and professionals. Provides an in depth look at the different stages of Alzheimer's disease and related types of dementia, as well as information on risk reduction and management, and stories from others who are living with dementia. Links visitors to other web-based information and resources relevant to wherever they live throughout the province.
Safely Home/BC Photo Registry: The risk of getting lost is one of the worries for people with dementia. Safely Home/BC Photo Registry lets people with dementia and their family members register a person on a safe and confidential database. The data-base includes a photo of the person and can be accessed by police and rescue services when a search is needed.
Research
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is committed to funding research into better treatments and to find the causes and a cure.

Advocacy and Public Policy
You donation supports the Alzheimer Society’s advocacy efforts aimed at changing or influencing individual behaviour, public opinion, and government policy or law. You can also become more actively involved. As an Alzheimer Advocate, you can
join us by speaking up about the disease, drawing the public’s attention to this important issue, and directing decision-makers towards a solution.
With your help, we can educate decision-makers about how to deliver high quality care where and when it is needed. By focusing on our key issues, we can improve the dementia journey for individuals and families, and decrease the per person cost through deliberate action.
