On Jan. 27, thousands of British Columbians walked in the Investors Group Walk for Memories. People in 23 communities came out to support those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias yesterday and heartwarming reports of community Walks are coming in from across the province.
While the final total of funds raised will take a couple of weeks to tally, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. hopes to surpass last year’s achievement of over $700,000 raised for programs, services and research for a cure.
Thank you to the 23 volunteer Walk committees, who organized with such dedication in their communities over the past several months. Thank you to the courageous Walk honorees who work to end the stigma often associated with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias by sharing their stories and breaking down stereotypes about the disease.
Thanks also to the Walk’s provincial media sponsors immediate images, the Vancouver Sun and Global BC, who sponsored the Investors Groups Walk for Memories at the provincial level. Special thanks to Global BC’s Mark Madryga and Dr. Art Hister who helped raise awareness and promote the event. And thank you to the many other media sponsors across the province.
Most funds raised by the Investors Group Walk for Memories comes in before and during the Walk, but the Society will continue to accept donations online. So if you’d still like to donate, here’s your chance!
