The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is very pleased to announce that we have been named one of three Featured Charities in the 2012 Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K, taking place on Sunday, June 24!

This means extra exposure for the cause, helping increase awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and the help that is available to families impacted by this devastating illness. Be sure to visit our booth at the pre-event expo and post-race party event area on race day, which is part of the benefits given to featured charities. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. was selected from a pool of more than 45 B.C. charities for the honour.

"The Alzheimer Society of B.C. submitted a strong proposal and compelling case for support earning them a well-deserved spot as one of three featured charities in the 2012 Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge. Their history of consistent fundraising results coupled with a dynamic marketing and recruitment plan made the Alzheimer Society of B.C. an obvious stand-out choice," says Michelle Henderson, Manager Community Engagement & Sponsorships, speaking on behalf of the Scotiabank Charity Challenge Featured Charity Selection Committee.

This will be the fifth year that the Society has participated in the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K. It is an exciting opportunity for runners and walkers to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, the work done by the Society, and the importance of brain health.

Want to get involved?

We are looking for volunteers to join our Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K organizing committee to help with:

  • spreading the word
  • recruiting participants (and donors)
  • soliciting and securing sponsors
  • enlisting volunteers
  • event day activities

Are you…
  • Connected to Alzheimer’s disease and the Society?
  • A runner and someone who has a large network of contacts?
  • Looking for a way to support our cause?
  • Interested in events or gaining more volunteer experience?

If any of the above apply to you, we want to hear from you!

This is your chance to make a difference for more than 70,000 people in B.C. living with dementia, and the growing number of people concerned about brain health.
