The Research Institute of the McGill Health Centre (MUHC) has released a study about a new blood test to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. Their findings have characterized a unique biochemical diagnosis for Alzheimer’s, a procedure that detects early stages. The research was published in this month’s issue of the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
“At present these new findings should be regarded as preliminary, interesting, and suggestive,” explains Dr. Jack Diamond, Scientific Director for the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
“If the described blood test is validated by further studies involving more subjects, and if the findings are confirmed by independent researchers, it could be useful, but probably only if used in combination with several other indicators of the presence or absence of AD or MCI, including of course neurological assessments. The authors of the report are well aware of these requirements before the test can be put into routine use.”
