Tangles: A story about Alzheimer’s, my mother, and me

Local author Sarah Leavitt is launching her new illustrated memoir Tangles: A story about Alzheimer’s, my mother, and me on World Alzheimer’s Day. The book depicts her family’s experience on the dementia journey as Midge, an outspoken, passionate, and quick-witted mother starts fading into a forgetful, fearful woman and transforms her family forever.

“My family received amazing support from the Alzheimer Society in Fredericton,” explains Sarah. “My mom attended an early onset patients’ support group when she was first diagnosed, and my dad relied on the caregiver support group throughout my mom’s illness. The staff were always available when my dad had questions, and I called them a number of times during my visits home. They provided information, resources, reassurance and kindness that we desperately needed.”

Guests will enjoy a reading by Sarah Leavitt, live music by a thousand times no + Tina Tew, and a reception. Frame prints of illustrations from Tangles will be featured in a silent auction, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
