On October 26, 2010, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. hosted a First Link® Learning Forum, bringing together our partners from the Ministry of Health Services and the regional health authorities, key partners integral to the successful delivery of the new programs.
The event was an opportunity to discuss our common vision for the expansion of First Link® in Victoria, Nanaimo, Richmond, Burnaby, Kelowna, and Prince George. As well, the event increased and strengthened understanding among participants about how they could champion First Link® in their communities.
“First Link® is an effective strategy for connecting people affected by dementia to the information, support and education they need in a timely way,” explains Barbara Lindsay, Senior Manager, Advocacy & Public Policy. “Successful implementation of First Link® depends upon a strong referral network.”
Participants heard from families who have already benefitted from the First Link® program during its pilot stage in Greater Victoria, from Ministry staff about their vision for funding the expansion of the program, and from the Vancouver Island Health Authority who have funded and supported First Link® for the past two years.
