Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Prince George, the 2009 Walk was dedicated to all caregivers.
Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is a demanding and sometimes difficult journey. As the disease progresses, caregiving can become a 24-hour a day job, requiring endless patience and love.
Caregivers may be spouses, children, family members, or paid professionals, but they are all unsung heroes, who persevere in the face of this disease.
“If you are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease you are on a new journey and feel the range of emotions that we all experience of not knowing where to turn or who to talk to. Education is the most important factor; our resource centre here in Prince George is well equipped to give you information in the form of seminars, lending videos and books and best of all support groups. Come and join us,” said Bea Varley, a caregiver in Prince George.
