Penticton 2009
In Honour of All Caregivers

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Penticton, the 2009 Walk was dedicated to all caregivers in the South Okanagan/Similkameen.

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is a demanding and sometimes difficult journey. As the disease progresses, caregiving can become a 24-hour job, requiring endless love and patience.

Caregivers may be spouses, children, family, or paid professionals, but they are all unsung heroes who persevere in the face of this disease.

“Our family gets involved with the Walk because we want people to educate themselves about Alzheimer’s,” said Ralph Coyston of Penticton, a caregiver for his wife Elva. “People should know that they might have to deal with this disease someday. The Alzheimer Society is there, with support and education, through the many years of the disease; I don’t know what I would do without the staff at the Penticton office.”
