Nanaimo 2009
In Honour of All Caregivers

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Nanaimo, the 2009 Walk was dedicated to all caregivers in Nanaimo and surrounding areas.

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is a demanding and sometimes difficult journey. As the disease progresses, caregiving can become a 24-hour a day job, requiring endless patience and love.

Caregivers may be spouses, children, family members, or paid professionals, but they are all unsung heroes, who persevere in the face of this disease.

In acknowledgement of their commitment, the caregivers of Nanaimo are the honourees for the 2009 Investors Group Walk for Memories.

“The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is a lifeline for caregivers. Their knowledge about the disease, support groups and one-on-one support mean that we’re not alone with this disease,” said Rowland Skirrow, a caregiver from Central Vancouver Island.
