Kamloops 2009
In Honour of Dave Eburne

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Kamloops, the 2009 Honouree was Dave Eburne.

Born in Vancouver, Dave Eburne excelled in athletics and became a member of the National Rugby team. Dave was a high school teacher for 25 years, and gave back to his community as a member of the Kamloops Search and Rescue Team and as a volunteer ski patroller and rugby referee.

But in 2007, at age 57 Dave was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia.

Dave and his wife Holly rely on the Alzheimer Society of B.C. office in Kamloops to learn how to live well with dementia.

“The Alzheimer Society is there, anytime, with an understanding of what we’re living day-to-day; their support groups, research, and information about the disease are helping us to maintain our quality of life. Dave is thrilled to be this year’s honouree, because thousands are affected, but many people don’t know about this disease,” said Holly.
