In Honour of JR Weaver

Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. In Chetwynd, the 2009 Honouree was JR Weaver.

Born in New Brunswick in 1945, JR Weaver moved to Chetwynd in 1976 where he raised his family and worked in the logging industry. A gentle man and a well-known member of the community, JR was always ready with a smile or a joke, or to lend a hand to others in need.

In 2006 JR was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. JR passed away on September 5, 2008 at the age of 63.

“Our family is pleased that Dad is the honouree for the Walk because after Dad’s diagnosis, our family realized there is a lack of understanding about this disease,” said JR’s daughter Kristal. “As the honoree, Dad’s life and death can build awareness and be used for positive change. The Society staff in Dawson Creek were always there for us with information, support and advocacy.”
