In 2007, at the age of 58, Jim Mann was diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia. He has known the dementia journey ever since he was a caregiver for his mother who also had the disease. Knowing what he is up against, Jim stresses, “it makes all the difference to be prepared and plan the rest of your life. While it may not be the life we would have chosen, it’s what we have and we are going to make it worthwhile”. Jim has also taken control of his journey with Alzheimer’s disease by becoming a strong advocate.
In 2008, Jim joined the Board of the Alzheimer Society of B.C., and then the National Board of the Alzheimer Society of Canada in 2009. He is also on the Advisory Board of the Canadian Dementia Knowledge Translation Network and the Community Advisory Committee with the Centre for Research on Personhood in Dementia. Jim offers the Society the very talents that served his brilliant career in the transportation and tourism industry: advocating and educating.
Let’s get walking White Rock, Surrey & Delta - for Jim Mann and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
