Each of the
Walks is dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
This
Investors Group Walk for Memories is dedicated to
Ron Houston.
One of 5 children, Ron Houston grew up in Ochre River, Man. A longtime curler, he met his wife, Beth, at the renowned Manitoba Bonspiel. They lived in Thompson, Man., moving to Vernon in 1974 with their two sons, Robert and Darrell. Ron and Beth have three grandchildren, Zachary, Camille, and Emma.
Ron was manager of the Vernon Curling Club for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He has been involved in curling in many roles: curler, coach, association secretary, and BC’s Junior representative. His highlight was playing Lead for Team BC at the 1991 Canadian Senior Men’s Championship. As a leader in the curling community—locally, provincially and nationally—Ron was key in making the Vernon Curling Club one of the most active and progressive clubs in the province. Ron also enjoys golfing and is a fan of baseball.
Ron has been an open and active participant in the Alzheimer Society of B.C. programs. He was one of the first people to join the Minds in Motion program in Vernon and remains an active member. Ron and Beth have both been part of
Shaping the Journey: living with dementiaTM, early stage and caregiver support groups.
Let’s get walking Vernon - for Ron Houston and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
