Each of the
Walks was dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.

This
Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to
Michael Tham.
Michael Tham was born on Aug. 26, 1934 in Singapore, where he lived for 49 years. While living in Singapore he met his wife Susan and they had two boys, Patrick and Andrew. Michael has worked as a lifeguard, a medical supplies salesman, an airline manager, a travel agent and a realtor. He was a Queen’s Scout which is the highest possible honour for a scout in the Commonwealth. In his spare time, Michael liked to stay active by regularly playing golf and badminton. In 1983 the Tham family decided to move to Canada, and relocated to Richmond, B.C. where he and his wife still live.
In 2010, Michael was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. His son Patrick explains, “It can be very easy to give up, but he has stayed active and engaged.” Michael feels that it is important to be as involved as you can in order to stay healthy and connected, and has therefore been willing to accept services, such as the local Kinsmen Adult Care Centre and Minds in Motion™.
The Tham family reached out to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. just as the services were being expanded in Richmond. They were one of the first families in the region to participate in both First Link® and Minds in Motion™.
Thanks for
Walking Richmond - for Michael Tham and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
