This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Keith Hannett.
Keith was born and raised in Duncan, B.C. and after receiving scholarships to Victoria College and the University of British Columbia he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in Transportation Economics. Keith received a position with Statistics Canada the year he graduated and then moved to Ottawa, Ont. After Keith retired from 35 years of service in 1998, he moved back to B.C. and spent several years working on cruise ships as a dance host which enabled him to see the world.
Keith’s son Kevin recalls fond memories as a Cub Scout with his dad acting as the local pack leader and attending provincial, national and world Scout jamborees together. Keith has been an active curler throughout his life and he and his daughter Susan have enjoyed curling with the family team weekly for the past eight years.
Keith is a leader and advocate for those who are living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He has always been forthcoming with the fact that he has Alzheimer’s disease and he is happy to talk about his dementia journey. In doing so, he has tried to lessen the stigma attached to Alzheimer’s disease and provides inspiration to others who are faced with similar challenges to embrace life.
Thanks for walking Kelowna - for Keith Hannett and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
