Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honoree - a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Dianne Buckham.

If you've lived in Kamloops for any amount of time then you may be familiar with the Buckham family name. Dianne and her high school sweetheart Jack both taught and coached basketball in town for several years. In 2008 Dianne retired at age 65 from Sun Life Financial after a 19 year career.

Dianne's mother died of Alzheimer's disease. Her father Ken Bond, who was an RCMP member, founded the Kamloops Interior Alzheimer Foundation in 1984, which served the community until 1991 when service continued as the Alzheimer Society of B.C., and Dianne served as a member. Jack believes that Dianne's early warning signs began when she was only 55 years old.

Jack has connected with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. to gain valuable resources and information, and to shed some light on what the next chapter of their lives together might look like. Jack says, “Dianne still lights up when she sees her two closest friends,” and believes it is so important to maintain that connection. Our roles relationships may change, but the feelings attached to them never do.

Thanks for walking Kamloops – for Dianne Buckham and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
