We say that caregivers work tirelessly, but they get tired.
We say that caregivers have the strength to go the distance in this heartbreaking journey, but they don’t always feel strong.
We say that caregivers are paragons of patience, but sometimes they lose patience.
Why do caregivers do what they do?
Because, in spite of their exhaustion, their bad days, and their ever-depleting stores of energy, caregivers continue to see the person behind the dementia.
Caregivers refuse to give up because they know that without their compassion, commitment and voice, the person they see will not be seen.
Caregivers care. It’s what they do.
“There are only four kinds of people in the world – those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers.” Rosalyn Carter
Thanks for walking Dawson Creek - for the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
