Each of the Walks was dedicated to an Honoree - a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.
This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Del Anderson.
Del Anderson was born in Westborne, Man. on Apr. 27, 1922. He joined the Canadian Air Force after completing high school and served overseas from 1942-1946. He lived in Vancouver and then, with his wife, Winnifred, in Chetwynd and had five children. He was a long distance truck driver until his retirement in 1986, most notably driving the first truck over the Hope-Princeton Highway, which he helped to build.
He was an active member of the Chetwynd Legion #289, Exalted Ruler of the Elks #500 and an honorary member of the Chetwynd Air Cadets. He spoke at local schools each Remembrance Day about his experiences in the air force during World War II.
Winnifred joined an Alzheimer Society of B.C. support group following Del’s diagnosis where she “connected with people in a common plight and made some friends along the road of Alzheimer’s disease.”
Del loved family gatherings, traveling with his family and dancing. “He was a great husband and friend to all,” Winnifred fondly remembers.
Chetwynd walked for Del Anderson and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
