Each of the Walks was dedicated to an Honoree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Mackenzie Livingstone.

Mackenzie Livingstone, the oldest of five children and a twin, was born in Little Fort, B.C., on Aug. 30, 1922. Mac joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment at 18 and served in WW2 until 1946. He bought a ranch in Barriere and, in 1950, married Doreen and they raised five children and 100 cows. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbours and friends and enjoyed fishing, carpet bowling, cribbage and curling.

Mac, following his parents’ example, was an active volunteer and community leader. He was a member of the North Thompson Fall Fair, Royal Canadian Legion #242, Mount Olie Lions and several ranching and community associations. His children and grandchildren continue this family tradition in their own communities.

With the support of the Alzheimer Society of B.C., Doreen was able to provide care for Mac at home for 10 years after the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. “The information, support and counselling available from the Society allows caregivers to cope with the issues as they develop and progress,” she explained.

Thanks for walking Barriere & area - for Mackenzie Livingstone and the more than 70,000 individuals and families in B.C. who are living with dementia.
