Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Jean Brady.

Moving to Alberta from California when she was young, Jean Brady had to leave school after Grade 10 to work in an Edmonton book shop. This suited her perfectly because she loved reading. Following marriage and children, she completed her education, attended university summer school and became a teacher. When the family moved to Vernon, she taught at local schools. Her greatest pleasure was teaching children to read.

After a late diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, Jean’s condition progressed rapidly, taking away her own ability to read. She passed away in 1995.

This is your opportunity to show to show you care, and honour Jean’s memory.

“We didn’t know about the Alzheimer Society during mother’s illness and want to support it now so that other families will not have to go through this experience alone,” said Jean’s daughter, Cara Brady. “Mother would have been happy to be this year’s Investors Group Walk for Memories honouree to help educate people about something important.”
