Each of the Walks is dedicated to an Honouree – a person who has been impacted by Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

This Investors Group Walk for Memories was dedicated to Joan Laughton.

Joan Laughton grew up in Nova Scotia and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a meteorologist. After several years she resigned and traveled west across the country ending up in Nelson, B.C. where she met and married Ivan.

A wonderful mother and wife, Joan was a natural leader who was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Joan was devoted to her church, and as a breast cancer survivor became actively involved in cancer fundraising and counseling patients living with cancer. As the director at Jubilee Manor, a long-term care facility, Joan was dedicated to making the facility an excellent environment for seniors and staff alike.

“Alzheimer’s is a difficult disease to accept, especially when it involves your spouse and soul mate,” said Ivan. “The Society’s caregiver support group in Nelson was helpful for me; sharing my grief with others softened the blow when Joan passed away on May 31 of this year.”

This is your opportunity to honour Joan’s memory and show you care.
